Brett Allen Smith is an American filmmaker and journalist, most recently covering war zones in Iraq, Israel and Palestine. His short films have screened in over 80 international film festivals and museum exhibitions including DOK Leipzig, SXSW, Cinequest and the Philadelphia MoCA.

His debut feature film, Never, was produced by Outlaw Productions (sex, lies, and videotape) and released in cinemas across America in 2016. The following year he co-directed and shot the TV documentary feature Three Boys for RTL, Germany's largest public broadcaster.

Brett has made films under the guide of some of cinema's leading contemporary auteurs including Werner Herzog and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. His latest short, You Have [1] Unheard Message, was featured in a special installation at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival alongside new work by Weerasethakul.
